About Sarah

Sarah Hampson has a 30-year career in the creative industries of marketing, television advertising, book publishing, magazine journalism and column and feature writing for Canada’s leading national newspaper, The Globe and Mail. She has been recognized for her work in advertising and journalism with numerous awards, starting in 1985. A leader who thrives in creative environments, collaborating with others to conceptualize and meet strategic goals by developing valuable, insightful content, she is deeply connected to the media/arts community in Canada and has a network of media and business contacts in London, England, where her family has lived for over 35 years. She attributes her success to her self-motivated work habits and her love of a challenge.

  • Invited to speak on panels, on television and on radio about a variety of topics.

  • Appearances on CBC Radio, local radio outlets across the country, CBC TV, CTV, Marilyn Dennis Show, Royal Ontario Museum panel on modern celebrity, Globe Recognition events as emcee and interviewer and various other venues. 

 

1991 — 1998, Freelance magazine writer

 

This work in the magazine industry with cover stories and awards led to The Globe and Mail’s invitation to write a column in 1998. 

  • Through a variety of award-winning long features from trekking in the High Arctic to writing about life as a mother of three boys, hockey wives, the bi-centenary of Yonge Street to going to Chicago’s south side to write a feature on basketball star, Isiah Thomas, Hampson established herself as a writer of grace and breadth.

  • Wrote major profiles of key figures in Canadian life for all of the big magazines in Canada, including Toronto Life, Saturday Night, Report on Business, Canadian Art, Chatelaine and Homemakers. 

  • Also wrote for The Observer in London, England. 

  • Winner of numerous awards.

 

1988 — 1991, Associate Creative Director

 
  • Conceptualized and developed major advertising TV and print campaigns for blue-chip clients, including Heinz Ketchup, Warner Lambert (Dentyne Gum), Hersey Canada (Glossettes, Pot of Gold), Lotto 649, Whitehall. 

  • Winner of numerous awards.

 

1980 – 1983, Production Coordinator and Writer

 
  • Worked on trade magazines for Inchcape, BP Oil and other companies, coordinating design and editing. Also wrote various short articles.
